Ice Company
Building
Built in 1915 for Southland Ice Company. The area behind the building was where the wagons and teams were loaded with block ice for distribution. The extra thick walls and high threshold of the building are characteristic of ice houses. Former significant owners included Clyde P. Holland who operated an insurance business here and Lon T. Hubbard, a former mayor of Mansfield.

The Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center will take you here on their Self-Guided Walking Tour #2 (see URL, site is currently being reworked), and they provide some complementary information:
Built in 1915 for the Southland Ice Company, the building shows the uniquely thick walls and high threshold necessary to keep ice frozen through the Texas summers. Southland Ice Company got into the snack and drink business early on, and established business hours of 7 a.m. - 11 p.m. (quite unusual). It later changed its name to the Southland Corporation, and adopted the name “711” for its snack and drink outlets. This building is a registered Mansfield Historic Landmark.
