Lichtenau Mennonite Church was the new first church built by the Mennonite immigrants to Manitoba of the 1920s. Construction began in 1929 and the new church was dedicated on 3 August 1930. The church closed in 1989, with the final service being held on December 3. In 1994 the building was moved to the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach.

This commemorative plaque was placed in 1970 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the church on the occasion of a church reunion. The text of the plaque is as follows:
