gab dem Ort den Namen. Weißenthurm erhält 1663 vom Trierer Kurfürsten und Erzbischof Carl Caspar von der Leyen ein Marktprivileg.
Weißenthurm wurde 1866 selbständige Gemeinde. Das Stadtrecht erhielt Weißenthurm 1966.
Der Weiße Turm
stand zunächst frei auf dem Schieferfelsen. Nach 1650 ist unterhalb des Turms eine Siedlung belegt. Parallel zu Straße und Rhein wurden erste Häuser angelegt.
Die Leute lebten vom Durchgangsverkehr:
Wirte, Sattler, Schmiede, Seiler und Halfer siedelten hier. Die Halfer zogen mit ihren Pferden die Schiffe rheinaufwärts.
Der Weiße Turm
wurde als verteidigungsfähiger Wohnturm geplant und für den Einsatz von Feuerwaffen eingerichtet.
Der Turm war Teil einer kurtriererischen Landwehr. Diese führte von hier über die Burg Wernerseck bis nach Mayen.
Eine Landwehr ist ein System zur Grenzsicherung und Verkehrslenkung.

Am Fuß des Weißen Turms führte eine Straße vorbei. Sie war wichtiger Handelsweg zwischen Köln, Bonn, Koblenz und Mainz.
Vor dem Turm verlief bis zum Rhein ein Graben. Die Brücke darüber war mit einem Schlagbaum gesperrt. Hier wurde für Kurtrier der Landzoll erhoben.

war ein Grenzturm. Seine Seitenflächen weisen genau die Himmelsrichtungen. Nordwestlich verlief von 1335 bis 1803 die Grenze zwischen Kurtrier und Kurköln. Der Turm ist 28,50 m hoch. Die Außenwände sind im Erdgeschoss 2,20 m stark. Das Mauerwerk besteht aus Bruchstein. Der Turm war hell verputzt. Daher sein Name:

wurde um 1400 in der Amtszeit des Trierer Erzbischofs und Kurfürsten Werner von Falkenstein erbaut. Er regierte von 1388 bis 1418.
Der Erzbischof war auch ein weltlicher Herrscher. Er gehörte wie seine Amtsbrüder von Köln und Mainz zu den sieben Kurfürsten. Diese wählten bis 1803 den deutschen König und Kaiser."

In front of the tower a trench ran up to the Rhine. The bridge over it was locked with a barrier. Here the land toll was collected for Kurtrier.

Was a frontier. Its side faces point exactly to the sky directions. From 1335 to 1803 the border between Kurtrier and Kurköln was northwest. The tower is 28.50 m high.
