Auf dem Basalt-Skulpturen-Weg zwischen Linz und Unkel gibt es rund 30 Skulpturen aus dem vulkanischen Gestein, das für das Rheinland so typisch ist. Initiator des Projekts ist Professor Lars Ulrich Schnackenberg, der Studenten der Alanus-Hochschule in Alfter in jährlichen Stein-Symposien bei der Entstehung dieser Basalt-Skulpturen begleitet hat. Die Künstler und Künstlerinnen mussten bei der Arbeit mit dem Werkstoff mit großer Vorsicht vorgehen, da Basalt ein sehr spröder und sehr harter Stein ist, der schnell zerspringt.

On the basalt sculpture path between Linz and Unkel there are around 30 sculptures from the volcanic rock, typical of the Rhineland. The initiator of the project is Professor Lars Ulrich Schnackenberg, who has accompanied students of the Alanus University in Alfter during the annual stone symposia by forming these basalt sculptures. The artists had to work with great caution, since Basalt is a very brittle and very hard stone, which quickly bursts.
