The Homesteader Museum, though small in comparison to some state museums, was one of the most interesting we visited. There are typical homesteader cabins, workshops and equipment also displayed outside.

This Maytag is displayed to the left of the entrance. This Maytag "Gyratator" Washing Machine is most likely a model 30 with electric motor. The last patent date that is legible is Jan. 13, 1931.

Maytag continued to make the square tub, like this one, until 1933. However they were producing the more traditional round tub starting in 1930. Periodically through the next decade a few more square tub models were produced, being phased out about 1939.

The luster of the washing machine is long past and the Maytag logo that should be on the tub is long forgotten. I did lift the lid to have a look inside and was surprised to find it was filled with water.

Monday is Wash Day and this old machine seems ready to go.
