This small obelisk is located on the grounds of the historic Fort Union. The 2 foot limestone obelisk reads:

The picture was taken facing east. To get to the monument, (only available during visiting hours at the Fort and checking in - no fees currently) go through the visitor center and proceed north along the path. Go past the four-way intersection and proceed to the third fort. Turn left at the first path to the left. The historic marker is halfway to the next intersection in its own turnout.
