Originally known as Union Hall was built for use of local Universalists. The Universalists rejected many of the central principles of Calvinism, which was the basis for the Congregational theology, which was the dominant religious society in New Hampshire in the late 18th and early 19th century.

In 1875 the Miller Grange to adapt the building for its purposes removed all of the pews and pulpit, transforming the main floor into an auditorium and lodge room. Miller Grange celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Town Hall in 1974 and continues to meet today. In 1889 the Town of Temple purchased Union Hall as their Town Hall, allowing Miller Grange access to the building. The building remained the town hall until 1990 when a new facility was built. It is still used for a wide range of social functions.
