The Wast, situated in the plain, where flows the Wimereux. The old parish church of St. Michel du Wast, built at the end of the 11th century by the Comtesse de Boulogne, mother of Godefroi de Bouillon, still survives in part.
The portal, in all its Byzantine beauty, remained standing. Countess Ide was buried in this church on 20 April 1113. One can see the carved stone that covered her tomb.
The church had formerly three naves: there was only one.
The arcades in masonry on which the columns which supported the vault resting, were blocked; But the columns remained, with their conical capitals without ornaments.
The most important piece of architecture that this church can offer to the history of art is the beautiful Roman-Byzantine portal, whose plan was published in the collection of departmental Antiquities.
