At the corner of 3rd and Evergreen in front of the Durant City Hall, stands a monument dedicated to Bryan County Peanut Growers and Processors. Atop a granite slab is a molded aluminum peanut a little over two feet long. It attracts visitors from all over, whether it's the largest or not.
At the base of the monument is a time capsule celebrating Durant's centennial which was buried in June of 1973 and is to be opened in June 2023.
If you are in the Bryan County area, it's worth it to stop in Durant and see this overgrown legume.
