Rarely will you find a time capsule with an attention-getter like this one. It is located at the base of a monument sporting "The World's Largest Peanut". It is located at the corner of 3rd and Evergreen in front of the City Hall.
The time capsule was a project of the Durant celebration of its Centennial. It was dedicated in 1973 and is dedicated in honor of the Bryan County Peanut Growers and Processors. The time capsule contains historical documents and is to be opened in June 2023.
The wording for the time capsule reads:
Time Capsule Commemorating Durant's Centennial celebration: Buried June 16, 1973
