The mural depicts couples dancing. Rising about 20 feet from the ground, the dancers appear with hands clasped in midtwirl, smiles wide across their faces.

The black and white mural is made by pouring concrete into precast panels made of masonry board, caulk and Styrofoam.

The city is well known for its Czech restaurants and bakeries and for Westfest, an annual celebration of Czech culture.

Artistically depicting that culture was the job of Mike Ford, a graphics designer for TxDOT’s bridge division in Austin.

“My main goal was to give a look and feel of a dance going on,” Ford said. “Not just a single scene, but a feeling of dance.”
