Paint This Box! is a downtown project of the Northampton Council of the Arts. It continues the its program of transforming Northampton into a public art community. The utility boxes were painted on June 11, 2017 unveiled on June 12, 2017.
The utility box on Main and Elm Streets was painted by Ryan Murray. On the street side is a tribute to David Ruggles, a local conductor on the underground railroad. It features Mr. Ruggles driving a steam locomotive. The street side contains a large tree. Bees are painted in scattered locations around all four sides of the utility box.
