On my way to try and find a Waymark (Locomotive 1042 - which has departed, leaving only a bronze disk in the concrete) I noticed the bronze relief artwork honouring Caroline Chisholm, with a beautiful Rose Garden as well.
Very neat, and weed free, with a concrete footpath around it.
There was two stainless plaques on the brick wall of the Visitors Centre. One reads:
"Marguerite Parkes Rose Garden
In recognition of Marguerite's dedication to the growing and breeding of roses."
The other displaying:
"This Rose Garden is a
Rose Society of N.S.W.
Hunter Valley Regional
2002 Project"
On 'Googling' for a "Website" I came across an article in the local newspaper, the "Maitland Mercury", which certainly explains the tip-top condition of the mulch and the garden in particular, as it explains that the Rose Garden (while being there from 2002), was dedicated in December 2015 as the Marguerite Parkes Rose Garden. It also mentions that there are a couple of roses of special interest to Marguerite, for people special in her life. (
