EN: Engers was an autonomous city until 1970 and is today a district of Neuwied. Engers is considered to be the oldest Roman settlement on the right bank of the Rhine.
The 600th anniversary of Engers was celebrated in 1957, but the area has long been inhabited. The oldest settlement traces date back to the Neolithic period, the oldest burial ground of 40 graves, as well as some bronze-age objects are in the period 800-600 BC. Chr.
On the 7th of February, 1357 the city was granted by the Emperor Charles IV.
Engers therefore celebrated "650 years of city rights" in 2007.
The sign says:
650 years of city rights
