Apparaît alors une notion nouvelle, inédite, le site de « passage », le seuil, marquant la rupture entre deux espaces, deux mondes.
En effet, la relation intime que ces monuments entretiennent avec leur environnement direct est une piste de recherche privilégiée qui, très rapidement, a fait apparaître des concordances troublantes entre chacun des trois grands ensembles de Carnac : la répétition d’un schéma général traduit certainement une volonté d’affirmer fortement le même message.
