Gurney Drive Roundabout (Tsunami Sculpture)
"‘Wave Of Prosperity' is a sculpture design concept represented by a flock of seagulls hovering over stainless steel waves built over a cascading waterfall and surrounded by plain turf grass.
The sculpture design concept aims to drive forth the subtle message by using a fascinating combination of modern materials and natural elements of water.
The feature stainless steel ‘wave’ at the upper part resembles the sea which provides various luxurious prosperous fortune and great income to all life forms around the area. The lighting balls as well as the stainless steel balls attached to the feature stainless steel ‘wave’ symbolise the ‘Pearl of the Orient’ (a name known to Penang Island), reflecting the state’s prosperity to the locals and also its environment. The ‘flying seagull’ sculptures that are randomly placed above the feature stainless steel ‘wave’ represent sanctity and harmony among the multiracial community on Penang Island. Lastly, the water cascading feature combined with water ejaculation on the slanted surface of polished granite tiles finish symbolise the continuity of prosperity in life." Text Source: (
