EN: The Buuchhüsli is a former wash house in the center of Ziefen. The small building stands next to a fountain between the main street and the creek.

Ziefen is one of the few villages that still has a few of these wash houses, called "Buchhaus". In 1760, there were seven of them, each standing next to a fountain. The houses belonged to a cooperative of local residents, the membership was linked to the property of the dwelling-house. Non-members paid twice the price of the members, in the middle of the 19th century 2 Batzen per day. The last known wash day with a tub and an open fire to heat the water took place in 1924. Later, washing machines were installed for a few years.

The building called Buuchhüsli is the westernmost and best documented of the remaining wash houses. It is fully equipped and operative. Upon appointment, members of the Association for local cultural heritage can demonstrate yesterday's washing techniques to school classes and other groups.

DE: Das Buuchhüsli ist ein ehemaliges Waschhaus im Zentrum von Ziefen. Das kleine Gebäude steht mit einem Brunnen zwischen der Hauptstrasse und dem Bach.

Ziefen ist eines der wenigen Dörfer, die noch über ein paar dieser, Buchhaus genannte, Waschhäuser verfügt. 1760 gab es noch sieben davon, die alle neben einem Brunnen standen. Die Häuser gehörten jeweils einer Genossenschaft von Anwohnern, die Mitgliedschaft war an das Grundeigentum des wohnhauses gekoppelt. Nicht-Mitglieder zahlten den doppelten Preis der Genossenschafter, der in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts 2 Batzen pro Tag betrug. Der letzte bekannte Waschtag mit einem Waschzuber und offenem Feuer zum Heizen des Wassers fand 1924 statt. Später wurden noch für einige Jahre Waschmaschinen eingebaut.

Das Buuchhüsli genannte Gebäude ist das westlichste und am besten dokumentierte der noch erhaltenen Waschhäuser. Es ist original ausgerüstet und funktionstüchtig. Eine Gruppe des Vereins für Heimatpflege zeigt hier auf anmeldung Schulklassen und anderen Gruppen, wie früher gewaschen wurde.
