A grade 2 listed building dating back to the 16th century. The building is of timber frame construction clad in red brown brick. The original cladding would have been wattle and daub with a thatched roof, now tiled. There is an exposed cruck timber in the north wall allowing dating of the building. Doorway and windows are later 19th century additions. The original inn would have included a smithy, the landlord being both publican and blacksmith.
The plaque reads
“Cross Keys Public House
The base of a cruck timber in the end wall of this house points to medieval construction. The sign of St Peter’s keys goes back to monastic times”
