Pioneer Cemetery is located on the East side of Durant on N.E. 2nd Avenue. The cemetery is triangular in shape, lying between the road and the railroad tracks to the West. There is the remnant of an old gravel drive across the center of the cemetery. It is flanked by rows of trees which barely leave room for a horse and wagon.
The land is flat and the area is well-kept. There are approximately 427 burials here.
According to a marker at the entrance, this land was part of land given to the Durant family when the Choctaw Nation was moved here. The land was sold several times during the period from 1902 to 1912, and eventually in 1912 was deeded to the City of Durant.
