This overlook is located about a half mile east of the summit of Donner Pass on the Donner Pass Road (part of the historic Lincoln Highway and old U.S. Hwy. 40). The view point is at an elevation of approximately 6840 feet. The view includes Donner Lake to the east and the historic Transcontinental Railroad route across the Sierra Nevada.
The overlook is adjacent to the historic Donner Summit Bridge or Rainbow Bridge which was built in 1925 to 1926.
