FR L'aménagement du site de la fontaine date du XVIIeme siècle. L'eau provient d'une source qui jaillit à quelques mètres d'ici, au milieu de la rue descendant du village.
Tout à la fois Fontaine, Lavoir et abreuvoir, "La Fontaine" (c'est son nom), répond aux différents besoins des habitants.L'eau est ensuite répartie, grâce à une vanne, d'un côté vers le jardin du château, de l'autre vers les potagers des habitants.L'espace est aménagé avec soin. Le sol est pavé de pierres plates; l'arbre offre une ombre agréable n été et permet à l'eau de rester fraîche; le mur en retour et l'auvent plus tardif, abritent les habitantes en hiver et confère au lavoir une certaine intimité.
Les caisses en bois ont été refaites sur le modèle traditionnel. Elle permettaient aux lavandières de s'agenouiller devant les bassins sans être en contact avec le sol froid ou mouille. On avait l'habitude de garnir ces caisses de paille ou de tissu pour plus de confort.
