Saint-Sulpice-de-Royan knows, like all the peninsula of Arvert, an early evangelization (early 16th century).
After having used the temples of the surrounding communes, the reformers of this parish obtained the construction of a temple in the town itself in 1818.
In the middle of the 19th century, this temple, which has become too small, is replaced by the present temple, built in 1854-1855 according to the project of Léon Jossier, Parisian architect.
It is an octagon built of cut stone and rubble stones. On one side, a rectangular forepart forms the entrance porch, surmounted by a tribune.
Inside, the roof is a majestic frame with eight semicircular farms. This temple, of neo-Romanesque style, underwent very few modifications and it has the chance to retain its initial interior layout (benches, pulpit, consecration table ...).

Saint-Sulpice-de-Royan connaît, comme toute la presqu'île d'Arvert, une évangélisation précoce (début 16e siècle).
Après avoir utilisé les temples des communes environnantes, les réformés de cette paroisse obtiennent la construction d'un temple dans le bourg même en 1818.
Au milieu du 19e siècle, ce temple, devenu trop petit, est remplacé par le temple actuel, bâti en 1854-1855 selon le projet de Léon Jossier, architecte parisien.
C'est un octogone construit en pierre de taille et moellons. Sur un des côtés, un avant-corps rectangulaire constitue le porche d'entrée, surmonté d'une tribune.
A l'intérieur, le couvrement est une majestueuse charpente apparente à huit demi-fermes rayonnantes. Ce temple, de style néo-roman, a subi très peu de modifications et il a la chance de conserver son aménagement intérieur initial (bancs, chaire, table de consécration...).
