The image of a horse shoe on the facce of the tombstone, and some one added a real shoe learning against the stone, indicate his occupation

His obituary spells it out even clearer:
"Mr. Joseph Tobin, 58, of Foristell, MO, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016. He was born on February 8, 1957 in St. Louis to John Lee and Rita Helen (Franz) Tobin. After attending the local schools, Joseph worked as a construction laborer for over 22 years with Whitaker and Aubuchon and Wolfe Foundation. He was blessed with one daughter; Jennifer and two sons: John and Daniel. Joseph was a well-known farrier in St. Louis and St. Charles counties, loved the "Grateful Dead", fishing, carpentry, woodworking and blacksmithing." ~ McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home
