In the late 1940's, the area just south of the city of London was designated for Veterans Land Settlement. Those who had served our country in World War Two were home and their families were growing. Parcels of land were provided at a reasonable cost and houses sprang up.
The growing community was concerned about spiritual well being and began to investigate the possibility of a church. The Anglican Diocese of Huron said yes, and the building of the Church of the Resurrection, was moved from Oxford Street in north London and reassembled on a parcel of land just south and west of the current church. That building served until the mid 1960's, when it became apparent it simply wasn't big enough. Great plans for a state of the art church came to fruition as the 1970's began and with an early 80's addition, the church continues to serve the needs of the community.
St. Stephens Memorial has always been true to the term “Memorial in it's name. A strong affection for the veterans who started the church was evidenced when during our 60th year we constructed and dedicated the Veterans Memorial Garden along the south wall of the church.
St. Stephens continues as a focal point in the community and continues to grow our mission to south London and beyond.
