Albert Oliver Norman was a driver with the 18th Battalion, Transport Section of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He joined the AIF on 10 January 1915. Embarking from Sydney on 25 June 1915 he proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force on 18 March 1916, disembarking at Marseilles on 25 March 1916.

He was admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, 16 December 1916 having been wounded & after various transfers rejoined his battalion on 15 March 1917.

He was wounded in action in Belgium on 16 September 1917 during the Ypres campaign & died of his wounds that day.

His headstone is of black granite but the wording is difficult to read due to age & a covering of lichen. In my close up of the headstone the words "Of Wounds" are visible. The Southern Highlands Cemetery Register (visit link) gives the wording on the headstone as:

Margaret Norman who died June 1st 1928 aged 75 years. Oliver Norman died June 1st 1929 aged 73. Dvr Albert Oliver Norman 18th Batt Died of Wounds Menin Road SEP 16, 1917 Aged 29 YEARS.
