Labyrinthe finden sich weltweit in allen Kulturen. Sie stehen für den Kreislauf von Werden und Vergehen, hre Zentrale Bedeutung ist die Wegesymbolik.

Ein Labyrinth beschreibt einen Weg der mit vielen Wendepunkten, Umkehrungen, Richtungs- und Perspektivwechseln sicher zur Mitte führt. Dies unterscheidet es vom Irrgarten, auch wenn beim Gehen durchaus eine zeitweilige Orientierungslosigkeit entstehen kann.

Das Johannislabyrinth ist ein Ort der Ruhe zum Verweilen und Trauern. Symbole werden lebendig, wenn man ihnen begegnet. Das Johannislabyrinth lädt ein, den Weg unter die Füße zu nehmen und eigene Erfahrungen damit zu machen. Das Erlebte kann danach auf einer Bank unter den Apfelbäumen ausklingen - mit dem Blick von außen über das Labyrinth und die Weite des Friedhofs.

Im Johannislabyrinth sind vorhandene alte Grabeinfassungen verbaut worden, die so einen neuen Wert erlangen. Auch die Stelen in der Mitte kommen aus dieser Quelle und sind nicht neu bearbeitet worden.

Entstanden ist das Johannislabyrinth auf Initiative des Osnabrücker Hospizes im Frühjahr 2014 in Zusammenarbeit mit der Hochschule Osnabrück, Studiengang Freiraumplanung, dem Osnabrücker ServiceBetrieb sowie vielen freiwilligen MitbauerInnen und Spendern.

A labyrinth describes a path that leads safely to the center with many turning points, reversals, changes of direction and perspective. This distinguishes it from the maze, even if walking it may well lead to a temporary lack of orientation.

The Johannislabyrinth is a place of rest to linger and mourn. Symbols come alive when you meet them. The Johannislabyrinth invites you to take the path under your feet and to make your own experiences with it. The experience can then end on a bench under the apple trees - with the view from outside over the labyrinth and the expanse of the cemetery.

In the Johannis labyrinth old grave borders have been installed, which obtain a new value. The steles in the middle also come from this source and have not been reworked.

The Johannis labyrinth was created on the initiative of the Osnabrück Hospice in spring 2014 in cooperation with Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, study program Freiraumplanung, the Osnabrück service company as well as many voluntary co-workers and donors.
