This statue was unveiled in High Street in 1998, on the site of the old Coalville Station, by David Taylor, MP and Rt. Rev. William Down, assistant Bishop of Leicester exactly 100 years to the day after the Whitwick Pit disaster.
"Standing figure of a miner, his right foot on a chunk of coal, wielding a pick-axe. By his left foot is a cast of an Eccles Protector Lamp, inscribed with this name and 'Type 6 MEQ Safety Lamps'. On his back an 'Oldham' battery pack. The figure's base is flush with the gravel of the circular, low-walled setting."
