Inscribed on a granite block:

For all this nation's veterans,
and especially for those of the city of Dickinson:

“Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on earth. The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay the price.” - Ronald Reagan

“If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.”
- Thomas Payne

To all those who have served, especially to those who have paid the price and borne the burden of preserving our liberty. A grateful nation can never adequately give thanks in humble gratitude. This marker is dedicated to their memories to remind all that “these dead shall not have died in vain…”

From Graybeard Outdoors 6/01/2010:

Dickinson Texas Veterans Memorial

About a year ago I got involved with a project to build a Veterans Memorial in my home town of Dickinson Texas. The idea for building the memorial came from a truly wonderful young man doing it as his Eagle Scout project. I know his dad, who asked if I would like to donate and if I had any ideas on how to raise the almost $23,000 it would cost. Well here is where I got fulling involved by organizing a fishing tournament, bbq and silent auction to help raise funds. As part of the getting the word out to the area about the fishing tournament the young man and myself were able to go on the radio as part of a weekly Outdoors show. This really set things in motion and donations started to pour in. Sportsmen truly are this countries backbone as well as past Eagle Scouts and Veterans. We all came together and by the end of the fishing tournament, bbq and auction we had rasied enough money.

We started construction of the memorial shortly after the first of the year, with all the labor donated by sportsmen, veterans and boy scouts. The memorial was completed just weeks ago but in time for a dedication service to be arranged for Memorial Day morning. I can not tell you how proud I am to have been a part of this project. The young man who conceived this project is very special, and has reafirmed the hopes of many that this country still has a chance to continue as a Free Nation!
