Bis 2013 war an der Wehranlage "Am Kurpark" eine für Fische unüberwindbare Staustufe. In der Galerie ist ein Foto von der damaligen Situation (von der Informationstafel stammend).
2013 hat sie dann das Land Rheinland-Pfalz in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kreis Ahrweiler und mit Mitteln aus dem Europäischen Landwirtschaftsfonds zu einer naturnahen Fischleiter umgebaut. So wurde die Staustufe aus Beton rückgebaut und durch mehrere, kleinere Staustufen aus Natursteinen, einer sog. Sohlengleite, ersetzt. Ziel war es, Wanderfischen und anderen Wasserorganismen den freien Zugang zu flussaufwärts gelegenen Ahrabschnitten zu ermöglichen.

Until 2013, the weir "Am Kurpark" was an insuperable obstacle for fishes. There's a photo of the situation then in the gallery (taken from the information sign).
In 2013, the state Rhineland-Palatinate in coorperation with the county of Ahrweiler and with funds from the European agriculture fund rebuilt it to a nature-orientated fish ladder. The concrete weir has been removed and replaced by several, smaller barrages made from natural stones, a so-called rock ramp. The intention was to allow fish and other water organisms a free access to upriver regions of the river Ahr.
