Welcome sign touting Marmora as the first mining town of Upper Canada.

The Town, located at the intersection of Provincial Hwy 7 and 14, was established in 1821. Originally called Marmora Iron Works, mining has always been predominant in the area, with a large iron ore open-pit mine close by. There has also been marble and limestone quarrying.

Today, despite the Town's history, agriculture is probably the most predominant industry.
