"The Empire Theatre located at 126 South Crosby St was built and opened in 1940 as a movie theater. The old, 280-seat, art deco movie theater closed in 1958. During the next 40 years thereafter, it was used on an annual basis to entertain the surrounding area with the Slippery Gulch Days Celebration of the city of Tekoa, with many, hardworking and committed volunteers. The Theatre was reopened in the year 2000 by a group of caring individuals that wanted to see it restored. In the past 5 years, it has established itself as a Performing Arts Center for the county and surrounding areas." (
