Every fall, over 50,000 red-sided garter snakes converge on four winter den sites in the Narcisse Wildlife Management Area, and every spring they emerge to mate before dispersing to their summer feeding grounds. This trail visits each of the den sites, where viewing platforms allow visitors to observe the snakes. Snakes are present only in the spring or fall, but the trail is open at other times of the year as well for hiking and for bird-watching, as the WMA also protects important habitat for a variety of bird species.
Parking is available at the trailhead.
