The portion of the memorial for World War I consists of five individual bronze plaques listing the names of the fallen. The following inscription is located on the wall beneath these five plaques:

TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE ALUMNI
OF THIS UNIVERSITY WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR

Inscribed on either side of this inscription are the years of World War I: MCMXIV (1914) and MCMXIX (1919).

The names of the World War I fallen listed on these five plaques are included in the University's published Roll of Honour, 1914-1919 (visit link).

Beneath this upper portion of the memorial dedicated to World War I is another long and narrow bronze plaque listing the names of the University alumni who fell during World War II. Small pony walls jut out from the wall bearing the plaques. Inscribed on the pony wall on the left is the year 1939 and on the pony wall on the right is the year 1945, the years during which World War II occurred.

There is some conflicting information about who created the World War I plaques as seen below. One of the websites identifies Pilkington Jackson as the creator, while the other credits Sir Robert Lorimer. However, it may be that they worked together on this project. According to Wikipedia (visit link), Charles d’Orville Pilkington Jackson was a British sculptor prominent in Scotland who worked closely with the architect Sir Robert Lorimer throughout his career. So, it appears that Lorimer designed the plaques, while Jackson created them.

"The large bronze war memorial at the west end of the quadrangle is by Pilkington Jackson (1923)."

--Wikipedia

"The University’s memorial, costing approximately £2,000 and located on the west wall of the Old College Quadrangle, was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929) and was unveiled on the 19th February 1923."
