A large concrete drain canal, about 15 to 20 feet wide and about 10 feet deep helps the city control floods during the rainy season. A small plaque on either side of the canal, viewable from the western sidewalk along Harbor Blvd, dated the construction to be from 1940 and was completed by the WPA.
