General Jose de San Martin is regarded as a Father of South American Independence from Spain. He is credited with bringing nationhood to Argentina, and later Peru and Chile.
The bust was presented to the City of Ottawa by the Embassy of Argentina in 1973. It is located prominently in the centre of Minto Park.
