"The Cortland City Council is considering removing two aging traffic signals on Greenbush street and replacing them with flashing stop signs. The proposal is drawing concerns about safety. The City DPW is looking to remove the traffic lights at the intersections of Greenbush and Central Ave. and Greenbush and Elm St. near the County Office Building. The cost of replacing the equipment is between $45 and $57 thousand dollars for each intersection. The city only has just under $50 thousand dollars budgeted for the year. The city has 7 other intersections that are in need of updated traffic lights.
Dovi suggests the city replace the lights with solar powered flashing stop signs to improve safety and save money. Replacing the whole intersection with the flashing stop signs would cost around $8 thousand dollars."
