Look inside and be led back to the beginning of the 20th century. Here in the old smithy you can see how a smithy worked at that time.
The smith is from around the 1840s. Originally, the smith was at a large farm called Skovlyst. The farm was on Hallingskovvej. The story is that the farmer became angry when he saw that the smith drank a beer with some others and relaxed. He did not want drunkenness in his smithie. The blacksmith said that it was his smithie and the farmer thought that because it was his land it stood on, he should decide. The smith then moved his smithie to a piece of land at the Weber family in Christiansminde at the gatehouse.
In 1993, it had to be demolished as a major road had to be built close by. Thanks to Svendborg Metal the smedien was rebuilt stone for stone where it stands now.
The smith has been moved to the present foundation under the guidance of architect Jes Heine Andersen, Svendborg and reopened in collaboration with students and teachers from Svendborg Technical School. The project was financed by Dansk Metal.
