The Victorian Gothic style church was constructed of local stone with a timber floor and tin roof in 1911, before which the congregation met for services at the local police station.
Walter Padbury a local business man bequeathed money for the construction of the church , which was subsequently named after the church in his birthplace of Stoneyfield in England.
The foundation stone is worded thus-
"To the Glory of God
and in memory of
Walter Padbury
A well known pioneer who landed in the state
in 1829
This stone was laid by
The Hon W T Loton JP
March 4th 1911"
