The Victorian Gothic style church was constructed of local stone with a timber floor and tin roof in 1911, before which the congregation met for services at the local police station.

Walter Padbury a local business man bequeathed money for the construction of the church, which was subsequently named after the church in his birthplace of Stoneyfield in England.
