Die Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig wird auf den 16. bis 19. Oktober 1813 datiert. In dieser Schlacht kämpften die Truppen der Verbündeten Russland, Preußen, Österreich und Schweden gegen die Truppen Napoleon Bonapartes. Napoleon musste am Ende eine Niederlage einstecken und sich mit seinen verbliebenen Truppen und ohne Verbündete aus Deutschland zurückziehen.

Am ersten Tag der Schlacht (dem 16.Oktober) positionierte Napoleon einen Großteil seiner Truppen (etwa 110.000) südlich von Leipzig. Den französischen Truppen gegenüber standen im Süden die Böhmische Armee unter Karl Philipp zu Schwarzenberg mit 130.000 Mann. Einen Teil dieser Truppen (das II. preußische Korps des preußischen Kontingents) befehligte Friedrich Emil Ferdinand Heinrich Graf Kleist von Nollendorf (visit link) in der Nähe der Stelle des heutigen Apelstein Nr. 4.
Das II. preußische Korps stand bei der Hauptarmee süd-westlich von Wachau bei SCHWARZENBERG.
Friedrich von Kleist konzentrierte sich an diesem Tag vor allem auf den Ort Markkleeberg. Viermal eroberte er die unter Josef Anton Poniatowski besetzte Stadt und wurde wieder daraus verdrängt. Am Ende behauptete Kleist die Stadt mit Mühe.

The Battle of the nations near Leipzig ('Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig') was the decisive battle of the Wars of Liberation. At the site of the 'Apelstein Nr. 4' Generalleutnant Friedrich von Kleist stood with about 10.000 man.
The 'Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig' is dated to October 16 to 19 1813. In this battle, the troops of the allies, Russia, Prussia, Austria and Sweden fought against the troops of Napoleon Bonaparte. At the end Napoleon were defeated and he had to retreat with his remaining troops and without allies from Germany.

On the first day of the battle (the October 16) Napoleon positioned much of his troops (about 110,000) in the south of Leipzig. The French troops were facing in the south the Bohemian army under Karl Philipp zu Schwarzenberg with 130.000 men. A part of these troops (The 2nd Prussian Corps of the Prussian contingent) commanded Friedrich Emil Ferdinand Heinrich Graf Kleist von Nollendorf (visit link) near the site of the present 'Apelstein Nr. 4'.

On this day, Friedrich von Kleist was focused on Markkleeberg. Four times he conquered the city under Joseph Anton Poniatowski and was pushed out of it again. In the end Kleist claimed the town with difficulty.
