"The town of LaCrosse was born in 1888 when the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company completed their line between Riparia and LaCrosse. Development soon followed, and the town was incorporated in 1917. The town is said to have been named after LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the hometown of an OR &N railroad survey engineer."
