St Joseph's Catholic Church [Cessnock] is on the corner of Cumberland and Yango Streets. It is relatively 'new', being built in 1952.

This is a large red brick building, built almost in 'Auditorium' style. There is a long flight of stairs up from Cumberland Street, directly opposite the Cessnock Police Station.
Wheelchair access is from the Yango Street car park entry via a couple of ramps.
There is a Foundation Stone, of brown granite, which reads:
"The Foundation Stone of this Church.
Erected to the honour and Glory of God
under the Patronage of SAINT Joseph.
Was blessed and placed in position by
Most Rev. Edmund Gleeson, C. SS. R, D.D.
Lord Bishop of Maitland
on the 11th day of May 1952
Rector: Rev. Patrick Davoren."
The bell tower has a brown granite Dedication plaque, which reads:
"This Tower is Erected
to the honour and glory of God
and to the memory of the men
who lost their loves
in the mines of the Cessnock area
and in World Wars I & II"
