"This community bears the name of its unique environment, the rolling grasslands of the Palouse Prairie. Originally called "Village of Palouse City," it was organized by a group of hard-working volunteers in March 1888. The city was later incorporated and officially recognized by the State of Washington in 1890.That industrious spirit is evident today along Main Street, where the town's historic atmosphere lends character to a variety of shopping and dining opportunities."
