The cemetery, north of the town of Ward, and just west of the South Dakota/Minnesota border on 222nd Street, has no fence and has just a few trees interspersed among the graves.
It is well-maintained but several of the tombstones have fallen into disrepair and several have tipped over.
The nearby town of Ward has a population of less than 50 according to the 2010 census.
The town was named after James Ward, a prominent railroad official.
