Unfortunately there is very limited information about this iconic looking Church on the internet, which has more recently become a Wedding Chapel.

This 'neo-Gothic' sandstone block Church/Chapel is directly opposite the now 'closed' Cessnock Cemetery.

Inside there are typical wooden bench pews, with wood paneled ceiling, and exposed beams. Lights are suspended, reminiscent of swinging incense burners. The tall, and skinny stained glass windows are of only three colours, except for the one at the entry, and that is dedicated to Bridget Hewens (1828-1893).

Behind 'the altar' is a vertical dome, with a central stained glass focal circle, with a goblet highlighted from behind. It has a further eight identical, and rather plain circular stained glass portals around it.

I would imagine that since the bigger Church was built in Cessnock in 1952, this would have had less patronage, thus leading to its Catholic closure.

[It was actually being used for a funeral service as I stopped by on Sunday, 31 January, 2016]
