Directions: Dry Tortugas are approx. 70 SW of Key West, FL. Loggerhead Key is west of Garden key which holds Fort Jefferson National park

This pier is open to use by anyone, it is a National Park, but maintained by the Coast Guard

You must bring your own bait, and you must provide your own transportation. There are shuttle boats to Fort Jefferson on Garden Key, but to get to Loggerhead Key you must have your own boat or sea plane.

Located 3 miles away from Garden Key, Loggerhead Key is open to the public for day use only. Visitors must stay on marked paths. All buildings and boat docks on Loggerhead Key are closed to the public. Private vessels must check in and file a boat permit on Garden Key before visiting Loggerhead Key or recreating within the park.

Fishing is allowed, only restrictions are to not disturb any turtles you may see. Do not pick them up or harass them


This pier is named for a Coast Guard seaman who lost his life building this pier.

"SEAMAN APPRENTICE
WILLIAM H. GRAVES
16 November 1955    6 June 1975
Seaman on the Coast Guard Construction Tender ANVIL who last his life while completing construction of this pier. His work was of the sea and he died on her beaches just before sunset.

Seaman Graves grave site is also on this island. A small cemetery plot with 5 graves, some from WWII era is here and he is in it." ~ United States Coast Guard
