This pillar is situated above the village of Lochawe on the north shore of the Loch. Monadh Driseig is not really a hill, but an extension of the eastern ridge of the mountain, Beinn a' Bhuiridh, which summit lies just over a mile to the west. The pillar commands fine views to the south over Loch Awe and to the east towards Ben Lui.
STEEPNESS: From any direction, reaching the pillar is steep, particularly lower down. The gradient eases nearer the top. The summit area is generally fairly level.
TERRAIN: Mainly grassy moorland, with the odd crag, especially on the lower slopes to the south and east.
ACCESSIBILITY: Only a mile from the A85 road through Lochawe to the south, but it is extremely steep from here and covered in bracken lower down. It is a similar distance from the east on the B8077 road and this is probably the easiest way up if avoiding the crags. It can be reached over Beinn a' Bhuiridh from the west down the easy east ridge.
NAVIGATION: There are very few paths around to follow in mist and the best course is to keep to the higher ground if following the ridge. The pillar is fractionally to the south of the line of the ridge at the point where the ground drops steeply south towards the loch.
DANGER: There are no difficulties if keeping away from any craggy ground.
