Bristol Commercial Vehicles built these buses from 1949 to 1968 to address the needs primarily of the Greater London Transit Authority.

Over 5,200 of these buses were built.

The Lodekka was the first double decker bus to enter service that did not have a step-up on the floor of the lower level.
