This was the tool that "Won the West", or at least the arable parts of the west. Extensively used to break the ground on homesteads across Canada and the U.S., this was the single most important tool the early homesteader could possess. A would be farmer could seed by hand, weed by hand, cut, harvest and winnow by hand, but the plow and a horse, mule or ox (or a really sturdy wife ;^), were an absolute necessity. Other implements, such as harrows, could be made by the farmer, but not a plow, unless he was also a well versed and well stocked blacksmith with a lot of tools.
Other than the word "Plow" embossed on the iron frame, there are no maker's marks on the plow. The style suggests its being a very old one, of the type that would have been one of the very first introduced to the area.
As one enters the museum near the old Windermere Valley Station, this is one of the first things they will see.
