The Military's - Department of National Defense occupied the Western Fair District, specifically Queen's Park, for training and recruitment during WWI (1914-1918) and WWII (1939-1947). To commemorate the land and proud history Western Fair has with the military this memorial is established to honour the service and sacrifice of Canadians of all walks of life who have served this country at sea, on land and in the air, at home and abroad, in times of conflict and in times of peace. For those who never returned these shores, for those who suffered and still suffer and for their brothers and sisters who survived unscathed. The memorial stands to remind all Canadians of their dedication and service. They gave of themselves, knowing the risks, accepting the costs, offering service before self. They served well, doing Canada proud; they came from every creed, colour and culture that has made this great country their home. They shall never be forgotten.
